Revit MEP 2015 - error importing gbXML from HVAC calculation software

When I attempt to import gbXML from Trane Trace HVAC calculation software back into Revit MEP 2015 a dialog box appears with the following mesagge "The file you are attempting to import was not created from this Revit project". Let me outline the proccess.

Outline of the process below:

1. Added 24 spaces and 1 zone and then exported to gbXML. File name Mech Spaces Load Calc Test_23381.xml

2. Imported that same file into the Trace program, ran calculations and then exported from Trace retaining the original file name.

3. When I attempted to import into Revit is when "The file you are attempting to import was not created from this Revit project" dialog box appears.

Perhaps something has changed because this process has worked in Revit MEP 2012, 2013 & 2014. I tested the steps above in Revit MEP 2014 today and did not have any issues.

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

In my case the problem turned out to be linked projects. The GUID of the project used to create the gbXML file is stored into it. When using linked projects, apparently Revit stores the wrong GUID.

In the context of this problem, two locations in the gbXML file are important:

  • The GUID which links back to the source project is found in the "CADModelId" node, which is found under "gbXML" / "DocumentHistory" / "CreatedBy" in the gbXML file.
  • All used projects are listed under "gbXML" / "DocumentHistory" / "ProgramInfo" as "ProjectEntity" nodes. Each file has its own GUID listed there.

The problem, at least in my case, is that the value of "CADModelId" was the same as the GUID of the last listed "ProjectEntity" in my gbXML file. Unfortunately this was not the MEP project, but one of the linked ones. Changing "CADModelId" to the GUID of the MEP project allowed me to import the gbXML file.

Hopefully this will help others encountering this problem and hopefully Autodesk will fix it.

Solution from RemcoBINK worked for me. It seems the issue is from the different GUID's for a master file and local file that most users work in.

For people that haven't edited these files before, CADModelId is located towards the end of the file.

If you are working in a local file, then copy the <GUID entity="File"> value for your local file (about 8 lines up) and paste that to the <CADModelId>

Still can't import a Trace gbXML without modifying the file to reflect the correct GUID in Revit2017.

Many thanks to the community for the work around. Autodesk continues to fall on its sword. But at least the sales brochures are nice, nice.

Regards,

Jake

Well it is 2020 so after 5 years we are still awaiting a response from Autodesk. Still hanging tight.
