Revit family creation course on Autodesk website

Hi Guys,

               I have a question. I am trying to do a course in Revit Family creation which is on the Autodesk website. I am attaching 4 links here.

My question is that are these courses exactly the same thing? Like are they the same course?

I can see the author is trying to create the same type of family in all these four courses.

I can see the handout in the four courses is exactly the same. The coures just for beginners doesnt have any files to use. But the other (step by step introduction) has Revit files which you can download by clicking on (Material) folder. 

I have never created a family before. So should I do the Revit Family Creation: A Step-by-Step Introduction (Just For Beginners)  or shoud I do the Revit Families: A Step-by-Step Introduction ?

Please let me know.

If you look at the URL for each they are different year versions 2014, 2015, 2016.

The "only for beginners" one is 2017.

They probably have the same, or very similar, content and Paul F Aubin is excellent at presenting these types of tutorial so they will be worth doing.

I would suggest that you do the "only for beginners" one first if you are a complete novice, then do one of the other ones and see if there's much difference. It won't be time wasted either way.

Just two things to note:-

1. with regard to lookup tables - in older versions the lookup tables were saved as external files in a particular folder location but now they are imported and embedded into the family.
2. units formats for certain parameters changed circa 2020 and this affects lookup tables and type catalogues

Apart from that though family creation hasn't changed much over the years so any version of the tutorials should still be relevant (in fact many content providers deliberately use older versions such as 2013 to create families because they can be upgraded but can't be downgraded i.e. a 2024 family can ONLY be used in a 2024 project but a 2013 family can be used in any version from 2013 upwards).

Thanks, I just realised they are the same thing. But I have another question. Should I read the pdf which is the text version or watch the video? Which one would be better? Also the video and the text are the same thing right?

Watch and use the PDF for reference. 

After you do the courses, get your hands on some manufacturers families relevant to your field and reverse engineer them. I learned a lot from families built by others.
