Revit Families

Hello,

I am setting up a library of families based on all the suppliers we use. As a company we design/ install a particular brand of fibre optic trunking, I have contacted the manufacturer direct however they only had IGS files. Using Inventor I have converted them to rfa format. I have loaded the family into my model however it has came in as an component (imported symbol) and I can't do anything with it (such as control its visibility). I want it to behave in a similar manor to cable tray, to assist with modelling. What do I need to do to achieve this?

Start with these instructions on Inventor-->Revit. Usually step 3 & 4 are overlooked.

Conduits are system families (like walls and floors) and thus can not be made with loadable families.

If you want to create your trunking within another family category then I would advise to (re) model it in Revit.

Create a simplified version of the trunking and use detail drawings to show the finer details.

Creating native and simple families will keep your project fast and small. Unoptimized families or families containing foreign formats usually will have negative effect on Revit performance

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
