Revit Component Editing Extremely Slow – Any Ideas?

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a frustrating issue and hope someone can help.

Whenever I try to edit any component in my Revit project, there’s a delay of 10–15 seconds after I click on it—it seems like the data is loading very slowly. This happens consistently with every component I select, and it’s making the model nearly unusable.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Performed a full project audit — no improvement

Removed all linked files — didn’t help

Reinstalled Revit 2022 and deleted all temporary files — the project works fine for about a day, but then the issue returns

Upgraded the project to Revit 2023 — still the same problem

The project was originally created in Revit 2022.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any idea what might be causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some things to check

-No (almost) full harddrives?

-Is it only this project?

-Do you have items families with lots of arrays?

-Other special things in this project?

-Does it happen in all views, also views with limited items visible?

Other thing to try.

1-Make a copy of your project.

2-Remove about 1/2 the project (best by removing certain family categories)

3-Do a save as and check compact file

4-Check if the issue still persists.

5-If the issue persists go back to point 2

6-if the issue is resolved then the issue is in the items you just deleted.

7-Go to a previous save where the last deleted items were still present.

8-Remove the items that were not causing the issues.

9-Go back to 2

Repeat this process till you (hopefully) can pinpoint this to certain instances or families.
