Revit 22 pdf export - bad 3d quality

Hello,

In revit 22 we have a nice option to export pdfs using parameters etc. All nice but 3d views have realy bad quality. Below first picture from 3rd party pdf printer, and second picture is from revit. You can see its blured especcially around equipment and angled pipes. In the third picture my pdf settings. Any idea how to improve it?

I haven't used 2022, but have you looked under the 'Export Setup'. Can you alter the DPI of the export? It just looks like the settings are set really low.

Hello,

The settings you can see in the last picture. It is presentation quality.

Have you tried a different PDF printer for comparison?

Is it possible to change dafault printer that revit is using? I dont find this possibility anywhere.

Please note I am speaking about "Exporting to PDF" and not "Printing".

For comaprision you can see 2 pictures that i attached in my first post.

1st one is the third party plugin for printing. Second is exporting to pdf by revit.

What is the difference with exporting?

New feature in rev22. You can plot multiply sheets, paper size is not a problem anymore, names of files based on parameters, etc. Check google for details 😉

That sounds like printing to PDF using just about any driver.

What's the difference in the output? I'm asking you because you said it was different from printing.

In "old" printing indeed you have possibility to select a printer. I just changed default printer.

And when i use this option my result is as picture below. Edges are quite sharp

Then i directly used export to pdf option (there i dont have a possibility to select a printer) and the result is shown below:

The nice thig is that there i dont have to manullay select paper size for different sheets and i can define names of files depending on parameters. But 3D looks bad and i think there is no way to improve it at this moment. Unless devs give option to select different printer.

Have you checked the settings for export setup? I don't have 22 so I can't check for myself.

Yes - in my first post (third picture) you can see available settings for this export. Nowhere to change printer and my settings are set to best vector quality. But after plotting i get info that it was automaticly changed to raster for all 3d drawings.

tomaszpilzys_0-1641554963168.png

A thing that cant be adapted. And i think that it may be the problem. When plotting old way or using third paty soft the 3D drawings can be plotted as vectors. Im going to stay with the new way because this is much faster and more flexible. But its a pity that really nice 3d drawings are downgraded during plotting. After all pdfs are shown to clients - not revit views.

That view cannot be plotted as vector with any plotter.

Have you checked what's behind this button?

It is just to give a name for setup template.

It's unfortunate that there doesn't appear to be any option to increase the DPI. Until there is, I would stick with the better quality of the alternatives. If you want to sacrifice quality for convenience, that's your choice.

I would recommend the Diroots Prosheets free plugin from the autodesk app store (or from Diroots website). It provides far more functionality than native Revit, particularly being able to customise the PDF file names, set sheet size and orientation for each sheet and save the settings.

We use the Docuflow app (link). When it is not possible to print in vector, we print raster in 600dpi (presentation) and with good results. But it would be even better if Revit would natively support gradient and shadows with vector printing to avoid printing in raster.
