Now the options are in the ribbon.

Probably because it makes more sense to have all tag features in one place.

Revit Version: R2026.4
Hardware: i9 14900K, 64GB, Nvidia RTX 2000 Ada 16GB
Add-ins: ElumTools; Ripple-HVAC; ElectroBIM; Qbitec

I have been facing the same issue. It seems I have to tag the item first and the only option is to us an attached end, then click on it, then change it to free end and adjust. It feels very inefficient to me. On 2024, you used to be able to choose free end when you were tagging it. Hopefully this issue gets resolved.

I agree. Having the default option for tagging be Attached without any way to change this to Free is EXCRUCIATINGLY clunkly and slow to use. PLEASE FIX THIS AUTODESK.

When you initiate the Tag command, you can change the Leader Type in the Properties menu before you start tagging.

For me, that menu in properties is only active when I'm hovering over the item I want to tag.  As soon as I move the mouse over to adjust in the properties that menu goes away...
The work around I've found is to pan so an element that is going to be tagged is near the upper ribbon, then run the cursor all the way around in the ribbon, which seems to keep that menu open - but this is really tricky and cumbersome.  I'm assuming there must be another way, certainly that can't be the intended method to switch from tags with/without leaders or from Free End to Attached while you are tagging.  Any other suggestions?

I had this issue as well, however, if you initiate the tag command while your cursor is hovering over the properties window/menu you can update preferences - then start tagging.

Supposedly this bug was supposed to be fixed with update 2025.3 but I and everyone in my office have updated to 2025.4.2 and the problem still persists for all of us.
