Revit 2023 book focused on Plumbing for advanced user

I've been using Revit for many years and I'm comfortable with the HVAC side. I have some older (2013 etc.) MEP books that were useful, but I outgrew them to actually use them nowadays. I'm also not sure what features were added since. So time for an updated book.

I'm now starting plumbing design. I'm not a plumbing designer (yet), but have read through 6 of the ASPE design books. Is there a good Revit book that goes deep into the plumbing features? It looks like there are no standalone Plumbing books for Revit and it would be one of the MEP books. Many let me see the table of content etc. It seems they all are very short on Plumbing. Any books called "Fundamental" or "Exploring" seem to be for beginners and focus on how to open a project etc. So my guess is I look more for an advanced MEP book that is very good on the Plumbing side.

any hints?

The best book I had was Mastering Autodesk Revit MEP but you probably know 99% of what's in that already.

The one thing to be aware of is that plumbing calculations, particularly diversity/loading/fixture units, in Revit are based on the "International" ("Universal") Plumbing Code which is a US standard - you should be able to find copies online. Watch out for the dfference between systems which use flush tanks for WCs and systems which use direct flushing valves - the fixture units and conversions to flow values are significantly different for each type.

Other than that, the best resouce that I have found is this forum.

Thanks for the response.  Yes I have the "Mastering Autodesk Revit MEP" book and it looks like the most recent one on sale is 2016. So it isn't really much newer than my 2013(?) version. From HVAC work I noticed there weren't really so great new features or changes that one really needs the most recent book. but at this point, it wouldn't hurt to buy a newer 2023 or in some weeks a 2024 version of an MEP book.

I'm in WI and we have our own Plumbing code. So I need to "convert" everything anyway.  The physics are the same, But some things just follow different rules.

Yeah, I'm in UK and there are users all over the world but Revit only offers the one IPC method, unless you know how to code in C# to create your own custom calculator.

Alternatively you can maybe find a reliable method of converting your diversity factors into IPC fixture units which will then, when converted to flow rates, yield the correct flow rates that you would have expected to get if you'd just used your local code method rather than having to use the IPC as an intermediary.

There are a couple of posts on on the forum on this topic.

I understand that you're looking for a book that focuses on the plumbing features of Revit 2023, specifically for advanced users. Unfortunately, it seems that there are not many books available that specifically focus on plumbing in Revit 2023.

However, there are some MEP books that may be helpful for you. Here are a few options:

  1. "Mastering Autodesk Revit MEP 2022" by Simon Whitbread and Paul F. Aubin is a comprehensive guide that covers all aspects of MEP design in Revit, including plumbing. This book is aimed at advanced users and covers the latest features of Revit 2022.

  2. "Revit MEP 2022 for Designers" by Eric Wing is another book that covers all aspects of MEP design in Revit, including plumbing. This book is aimed at intermediate to advanced users and covers the latest features of Revit 2022.

  3. "Autodesk Revit MEP Fundamentals 2020" by Autodesk is a comprehensive guide to Revit MEP that covers plumbing, HVAC, and electrical design. This book is aimed at beginners and covers the features of Revit 2020, but can be a useful reference as well.

It's worth noting that while these books are focused on versions of Revit prior to 2023, they can still be useful as many of the concepts, tools and features discussed in them should still apply.

It's also worth noting that the best way to learn the plumbing features of Revit 2023 is through practice and hands-on experience. You can start by creating a small plumbing project and working through it step by step, consulting the software's documentation or online tutorials as needed.
