Removing Element from Circuit still referencing old circuit

Circuiting problems!!

 

I remove a bunch of lighting fixtures from one circuit to add to a new one.

and when i click on the lights ive removed it says it doesnt have power.

But when i go to add them to a new circuit it is still referencing the old circuit it was attached to. giving it 2 circuit references and changing the old circuit as well.

the only way i can get it to forget the old reference is to delete the fitting and add a new one in its place.

 

Hopefully someone knows a work around to this to save me having to delete and re add them in.

It looks like you made all of those fixtures a group.  Ungroup them, then edit the circuit and you should be good to go.

Thank you for your reply. the lights are not grouped they are all individual.

They're all associated in some fashion.  The values for both sets of fixtures are changed to "<unnamed>" in your third screenshot.

 

If they're not grouped (maybe you placed them using the array command?) maybe they have multiple connectors and you're only disconnecting one of them.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

 

they havent been arrayed all light fittings have been inserted individually. and all only have one connection.

 

its really strange as some circuits do not do this.

There's definitely an extra piece of data in your circuit/tag somewhere.  It looks like DB/G/1L is the panel name and L2-4 is the circuit name, but when you disconnect the lights from the circuit, you're definitely disconnecting something else instead.  I can't tell what it is, but if you can figure out what that <unnamed> bit in the tag is referring to you'll be on your way to fixing the problem.  Are you maybe disconnecting a switch system instead of power?

I have seen this where wires are drawn to connect the lights on more than one view.

 

Disconnecting the lights from a circuit in one view does not necessarily disconnect the wires from the circuit in the other view. The lights and wires in the primary view will tell you they are not on a circuit but when you add them to a circuit or create a new circuit, multiple lights get added at the same time and it gives the warning about being connected to another circuit.

 

The way to spot it usually involves noting which lights add themselves to the circuit that are not supposed to be doing so and then going off to find them in another view.

 

Deleting or replacing the lights works as they are not connected to anything else in another view.

 

With that being said, sometimes it does this for no apparent reason and its easier to delete them and redraw it instead of looking for a problem that can't be located.

 

Are you editing the primary circuit and using the command to remove the items from that circuit before creating a new circuit, as that is how it generally needs to be done.

 

What about the exit sign and the switch?

 

The fact that it is <unnamed> suggests there will be a circuit in the System Browser that will glow orange when you click on the lights on the circuit, this may show you where the issue is. If there is a rogue circuit, delete it or modify it. Its unnamed because the system exists but it isn't attached to anything so it has no Panel or Way data.

Just another reason that may cause the problem, but it is not clear in the view.

If you connect the lighting fixtures or electrical fixtures, using conduits, if you change the circuit of one element the other will follow.

But probably its not the case.

Thank you everyone for your input. Tried everything that has been suggested but still no joy. It will be something simple but haven't got the time to figure it out.

 

So what i did was select all the lights that i wanted on another circuit cut them and pasted them back in aligned with view and it works that way. 

 

Just revit been revit i think.

Holy god, really?  Do they understand how many different circuits can share a single conduit?  If that's the case we're never modeling conduit beyond the branch panel feeders no matter how much someone wants it done.  Not that we do so now anyway, but the day is coming.

I could be wrong, but I think he means if the lights are connected with  a wire,  not a conduit.

 

To move lights to a new circuit, its best to be sure to remove all items from the old circuit - lights, switches, jboxes, anything else that might be connected.

 

However, I believe this is also a Revit Bug.  Sometimes a light, or a jbox, or a switch will remain connected to a circuit, but they don't show up as connected, and you can't remove them from that circuit. 


The only fix is to delete those items, and recreate them, which the OP did. 

 

Sometimes you can figure out which device is causing the problem by removing wires until the extra circuit is gone.  Then you only have to delete and recreate one item.

 

Its been a bug for a long time, and I've seen it several times.  I don't think I've ever seen it for receptacle circuits, only lights.

I believe your right about the BUG best way to deal with it is to just delete and recreate when it plays up like this.

I've never seen this happen until now. I thought it was some combination having lights pinned, having the electrical connector pinned in the family. 

I tried deleting the connector and re-inserting it.

 

What I've found for 2019, is while trying to remove a light from a circuit, I copied a light, created a new circuit, finished it, and then tried to edit/add the other light to this new circuit. With System Browser open I noticed it gets circuited to both, even though the existing circuit warning pops up. So it can't remove elements at all, except by deleting the entire circuit. 

 

This is a major pain point. Rather than delete all my lights as suggested and loose all my switch systems. I'm just deleting entire circuits when I have remove an element and do it over.

If the device-fixture is switched, you have to disconnect it from the switch then re-circuit it. Then you can re-switch it after that. Hope this helps.

I am facing exact same issue in Revit 2019. I haven't even circuted switches yet. Let me know, if you have found any soluction.

I believe in most cases this is due to duplicating a view that has wires on it.  Then the duplicated (or original) view is forgotten, bu the wires are still there connecting devices.   

 

So, when one removes a device from a circuit, there is still a view somewhere in the model that has that device connected with a wire.  So the device is still "connected" to a circuit, but not actually "circuited" to the same circuit.  Deleting the element and creating a new one disconnects the wiring and solves the problem.  But chances are, there are going to be many devices with connected wires, so you may have to delete and recreate several devices to fix the problem.

The other solution would be to find the forgotten view, and delete the wires from it.

 

I was hoping I could create a schedule of wires and list the view they are on.  But unfortunately, Revit doesn't let us schedule wires.

In my particular case, we do not use wires. They are their own headache. I
have seen a similar behavior in wires that hold on to a circuit number
after the device’s circuit has changed. But the initial post is in regard
to circuits alone, no wires.

Seems to be just another glitch in the Revit Coding, somewhere. Hate that I have to delete my objects but in the end, that's the only fix I've found. The program is soooo full of them on the mep side. Autodesk just doesn't love us enough to fix this "industry standard!"
