Removed Family Types do not get removed when loading back into project

When i edit a family and delete family types from it, i select "Load into project and close", and save + overwrite the revit family file. Then overwrite existing family in revit model, but it does not reload the family with the removed family types.

I have had successes by saving the family, deleting the entire family from the model, and then re-importing the family to the model. This is not a reasonable solution however.

None of the types i am removing from the family are present in the model. Is this a Revit bug, or am i doing something wrong?

You can delete types from the family in the project by selecting the family in the project browser, expand it to see the types, right click and delete the ones that you don’t want.

you can call it a bug, or a glitch, but unfortunately, that is how it works. if you already have a family in the model with Types and edit it to remove types. When you reload the family, new types added to the family will be loaded, but any that were deleted from the family when edited will not be removed from the family already in the model.

as @iainsavage suggests, you have to delete the types you don't want, then edit the family. or delete the remaining ones after your reload the family.

That is not a bug but by-design.

Imagine a family with types A, B, C.  You deleted types B and C in the family but some instances of types  B and C still physically exist in project, if loading the family in project deletes existing types B and C in project like you wish then what would happen?
