Remove Family host....

Guys ive been stuck on this trawling through forums for half a day! and i'm sure its something fairly simple.

ive got a FCU family... that is work plane based... i cannot offset this elevation from the workplace so its stuck to whatever workplace is there.

i want it so i can drag it to where i want and doesnt required a work plane to connect to.

can anybody help me with some instructions on how to change this family?

hi @Anonymous

workplane-based belongs to a workplane/face. So you have 3 options :

1. uncheck workplane-based from the properties panel in the rfa.

2. create a ref-plane in the project and align your workplanebased rfa to it.. after this can be moved together.

3. use this rfa as a nested in a new generic family.

Hello @Anonymous,

You can't change the host. Each family is associated with an RFT Template.

Two solution :

a) You have to redraw in a new RFA;

b) Transfer your RFA n°1 to another RFA n°2 planned for what you want to do (faster but heavy file).

Are you not having the Offset control?  Below is a workplane based family, offset 500 mm from its host workplane in project.

If it is a face based family, you can still move it away from host manually.  Make sure to tick the box "Disjoin" and untick the box "Constrain" when you initiate the move command.
