Relux or Dialux

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could provide me with some advice. I have been reading up about Relux and Dialux and which works better with Revit. We are new to using Revit but hoping to develop it as our main design output tool. Would anyone be able to suggest which software is better and which software works best with Revit for lighting design and calculations or if there are any other bits of software which work best with Revit?

Thank you in advance!

Kind Regards

Neither work in revit so it gets messy using workarounds but having said that Relux have just brought out an addon for revit. Its still early days and you cant do full lighting calculations yet, but they have said its work in progress.

There is a addon for revit called Elumtools & that dose everything withing revit that you can do with Dialux & Relux.

The biggest problem Ive found for lighting calcs in revit is the architects model. It has tto be perfect for the room/spaces to work & even if they are perfect they often still dont work as the Architects may split stairs floor by floor  where as lighting design would need all the floors in one room.

Hi @VSCS & @chris.kershaw,

I agree with Chris once.

What I did find is a beta plugin for Relux in Revit.

The only thing you have to do is register! I have not tested this and therefore do not know if it works well.

I hope it helps you in your work.

Hello,

We use Relux for lighting calculation, we export rooms to the gbxml format using energy model. In Relux you can open this file, which creates all scenes, then you can place the fixtures and do the calculations, after you finish, export the results in dwg format. Link this dwg file, you will get the 3D dwg in Revit. I didn’t try the new plugin, but this workflow allows you to create documents within Revit.

We've been using ElumTools (same company that makes AGI) for years with success.  There are occasional hiccups, but they are generally caused by one of two things: poorly constructed architectural models or other installed software (we had a conflict with Bluebeam of all things blocking the rendering engine a few months ago).

I've never used the Relux or Dialux, but I've calculated light levels in ElumTools, then taken a light meter to the field post construction to verify and it was point by point accurate within one or two fc, and usually right on the money.

I have used the Relux plugin but the results i obtain with the application are different from the results I obtain with the same model, made inside the relux program

Ive not done extensive testing yet but ive not seen any major differences between the 2. You do have to be very careful as both ways have many settings/options that you need to make the same. Even down to the location/rotation of the building in Revit can make a difference if you have windows. Even if the building looks the same orientation revits coordinates system True north, project north and all that
