Referencing a view of a nested model.

Hello!

I am currently working on a mechanical/plumbing project. The project is multiple townhouse buildings on top of a shared parkade. The townhouse units themselves are all at different elevations. To make there model, they put the parkade/grade in a file, and linked in separate unit plans to allow them to adjust the elevations of the units as needed.

Now, they created almost everything detail wise as detail lines; these are located in the unit plans(all plumbing fixtures except we's). To view these details main file these they just reference the plan/link as needed.

On my end, after I have edited their file and made the units "attached" instead of overlaid, to make them a nested model, I am now unable to reference those levels. Seems I can't reference that deep into the rabbit hole.

They refused to bind the links, and instead added a few sinks in the models, and have me casework for the kitchen counters, which are now showing everywhere (I checked my view range, and no issues there on my end). I tried to bind the links on my end, and it copied the excessive amounts of detail groups too all floors.

All I need is to be able to see the line work from the nested model. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

try the copy Monitor method from the linked models

copy monitor all levels and grids, then create your views as needed, this will allow you to manage the levels and views with the linked models.

I have Copy/Monitored all levels and grids from the model that contains the entire project. Referencing those levels still doesn't allow me to view the detail items of the nested levels.

detail lines will never display through a linked model in a 3d view they need to be model lines for that to work.

they should convert the detail lines into Model lines

You can see detail lines from a linked model by changing your views' VV > Revit Link from By host view to  By linked view and setting Linked View to the view in the linked model. Use the Custom setting to tweak what you see from the linked model.

You could link the townhouses into your host model so you can reference the views with the detail lines.

This is an option that could work, But unfortunately the amount of time it would take me makes it just not a viable option. I have talked to the architect and we have worked out a solution that makes us both happy.

Thank you for your reply.

simply have the Architect convert the detail lines to Model lines

this should fix your issue
