Reading Journal files for Errors

Hello,

I am looking for help in understanding journal files and the error's in them... attached are some journal reports and dmp file.

I would love to be able to understand them better and know what I am looking for in these reports.

If someone knows of some good sites or articles out there that would be good too.

Cheers,

Martin

Not an expert in journal/dump files. I think dmp files are more relevant for Autodesk personnel (programmers). In there I expect information were they can trace at what position something went wrong so that they can relate this to a specific part of code.

In general I am only looking at the journal files when something goes wrong. Revit keeps track of everything it does and record it in journal files. If something goes wrong I look at the journal files and look for the term 'error' (often found at the end). Depending on what it says you can conclude the possible cause, do a search for a possible cause or upload it to a forum and see if somebody else know what the cause might be. The journal with the highest number is always the latest one and usually of the most interest

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Thanks Louis... I just believe that there must be some documentation out there about understanding that journal file better and knowing what you are looking for?!?!?
I don’t mind googling everything but I do want to understand it better and help out my users.

I think there is little information on Revit journals because they are used for troubleshooting by the programmers/helpdesk.

HERE is a PDF with little bit of information which might be of interest and give you a start.

Does anyone know a good place to find help reading the lines of code before the error message in the journal file?
