Plumbing Equipment schedule parameter exists

I am having an issue scheduling plumbing fixtures. I am trying to sort out items that have a plumbing parameter associated to a piece of equipment and filter out the ones that don't. My issue is that some equipment has cold water some have hot water and to make matters worse some have Gas.  I have tried various things to combine them even add a calculated parameter to add all the sizes to one so I can just filter that. (For example) cold water size = 1/2" and Hot water Size = 1/2", so my calculated comes out to 1" sweet. now lets add the gas to it cold water size = 1/2" and Hot water Size = 1/2", Gas size  = 1"  that is when it goes blanc . It doesn't make sense since they are all pipe sizes.

P.S. also tried formulas but it errors on yes

It might help if you could post a small sample Revit project with your issue. Not clear to me how you have set up thing in Revit.

so apparently you cannot schedule something in an entire list if one of the families does not have a parameter. for example a sink has cold water and hot water but does not have gas. but a fryer has cold water and Hot water and gas. so when I schedule them in the same formula if the parameter does not exist it blanc all of them down the list. 

sort of calculated down the list in column's and not rows. found the issue by adding in a gas size project parameter to the specialty equipment and bam they scheduled. this is such a work around. does anyone else have any other ideas.

oh I forgot I use KCL for the equipment families

I am not sure I got what are you requesting clearly. I will tell you what I understood and will list down the solution. Please correct me if this is wrong.

You want to filter the plumbing fixture by a specific parameter that might be cold water size, hot water size, or gas size....I believe the best scenario to use the filter by, for example, filter by Coldwater and choose is greater than 0. Accordingly, the schedule will be filtered and it will show just the elements that have cold water...Also, you can use two or more filter rules. For instance, you can say filter by cold water size and hot water size...

yep totally wrong. and yet you ask if I check it as a solution (pretty bold). Just FYI I am not a noob been working with Revit before Autodesk purchased it.

let me try another way. 

you can only filter down in revit start with a larger amount of elements and keep filtering it down. it is an and, and, and. if there was a and or problem solved. so what I am asking is there a formula that I can use to create the or.

all specialty equipment families that have electric from kcl comes with volts so that is easy to filter

however all plumbing do not come with all of the piping elements. so I cant use filters to just look for water because it will leave out gas, or drain etc... for some reason I cant make a formula to look for hot water, cold water, and gas because id only 1 of the 50 families doesn't have a gas parameter added to it it blank's out the column.

oh by the way I know i can create a project parameter (or shared parameter) to all specialty equipment and manually add it to any family for sorting, but I want to just be able to add a family from kcl and it just adds to a schedule, no mater if it doesnt have gas or water.

first file i uploaded has it broken the second one I fixed by adding gas to all of the families ugh. once i did that the formula worked

p.s. here is what i sent to KCL for them to look at.

( Looks like I found the issue

1. The reason the electrical works is that all electrical families that come from KCL already contain the volt parameter.
2. The plumbing on the other hand only contains what is needed.  So, some come with hot water and cold water but no gas, and some only come with a drain but not cold or hot or gas. Others just gas, etc…

So, when the schedule tries to add the numbers for hot and cold it works fine because those are always in your specialty equipment family. But when you try to add gas, some have the parameter, and some do not so the schedule goes blanc.

I figured it out because I used your add parameter button and added gas size on all the families then the schedule worked.

Not a fix but at least we can understand the Revit issue. Ball is in your court now lol)

No offense to anyone but we are spending time in this forum to help delegates getting the right solution. As I mentioned at the beginning of my comment that I am not sure this is what you asked for.

Now let us talk technical 🙂

As a mechanical engineer, I doubt there is a family that will take gas and other services and this is obviously shown in your schedule where the families that have gas don't share any other services.

So why you don't do two schedules? one for gas equipment and the other for the remaining services. In this way, you can sort by cold water then by hot water...

I understand and yes I already thought about the additional schedule, but I didnt want duplicate equipment numbers. ( this is for just rough ins not full mechanical.  We already have the duplicates. and that is why I asked the question because it has caused confusion in ordering. if it cant be done then fine just thought I would reach out to others and see if anyone (that is smarter than me in formulas) have a solution. like i said I already have KCL on the issue and they are working on it but would be cool to figure it out without them. 

P.S. this goes further than just hot and cold water, and gas it also has direct and indirect drains, waste, etc... I don't want 6 schedules just to make sure I didnt miss a piece of equipment when ordering just because I forgot to click it as a plumbing fixture.

@jarod.tulanowski Many people ask in their sign-off for a correct solution to be marked as such - not for personal credit but so that:-

1. Other users with a similar problem can find solved posts in the future rather than having to scroll through many unsolved posts (when searching you can filter results by whether they are solved)
2. If a problem has been solved then those of us who give up our free time to assist others can bypass the solved posts and concentrate on the unsolved ones.

@Mahmoud.Ziedan , combination (steam) ovens have gas and water supplies so that the humidity in the oven can be controlled.

@jarod.tulanowski Literally, I spent more than one hour on this 🙂

I will list the steps to solve this issue, but before I will address the problem(maybe you figured it out and you said in your previous comments however I will say it to give a clear idea for members overviewing this issue).

The main problem was the shared parameters 🙂

All the parameters that you are using are shared parameters and not all are found in all the families. For instance, the cook Vulcan oven family doesn't have cold or water size it just contains the gas size..and this is similar to the other families 🙂

There are 2 solutions for this:

1-If you at the beginning of the planning phase for your project I recommend adding all the parameters into your families even if they are used just leave the value to 0.

2-If you are almost done with the families and you are in the middle of this, I recommend adding the shared parameter into the project parameter. Just re-add everyone of these parameters.

and finally, apply your magic with your equation or the below equation:

option 1 equation:

if(or(Cold Water Size > 0', Hot Water Size > 0', FILTERED WATER SIZE > 0', Direct Waste Size > 0', Indirect Waste Size > 0', Gas Size > 0'), 1, 0)

option 2 equation:

(if(Cold Water Size > 0', 1, (if(Hot Water Size > 0', 1, (if(FILTERED WATER SIZE > 0', 1, (if(Direct Waste Size > 0', 1, (if(Indirect Waste Size > 0', 1, (if(Gas Size > 0', 1, 0))))))))))))

and for the rest of steps I believe you can manage.

Yes you are right. It is somehow rare and I just figured out that it doesn't exist inside the project that  @jarod.tulanowski  has uploaded.

Well I thought that was a solution but it was just an illusion. I created an brand new schedule and thought I would out smart the program and add the missing shared parameters to the project parameters. 

It looked like it worked at first it didn't mess up the families brought in that had numbers filled out (Gas 1/2") and it added the gas parameter to the ones that didn't have it (Sink family). unfortunately it didn't give it any number it just left it blanc (not 0")

Once again I can manually add 0" to the sink family for Gas and the schedule works, but it is still hand holding. Ugh why cant the formula just skip the ones that don't have anything in it.
