Nested families do not appear in assemblies

Hello everyone!!!

I'm doing a MEP project, and when I went to create assemblies for the first time, I came across a difficulty that I can't solve. I have a valve family, and inside it I have several nested families, and when I add this particular family, in a assembly, the nested families that exist there do not automatically come, only the valve comes. For this reason, I have to add to the selection the families that did not come automatically, and everything is resolved, but it is very tiring ... What would I be doing wrong?

Thank you all !!!

Hi, @alexandrelongo. You are doing everything right. But to speed up this process, you can use the capabilities of Dynamo. For example:
1. There is a parameter in my family that passes values to all nested families. I fill it out to quickly filter the elements to add to the assembly.
2. Open the view in which there is the desired assembly and all nested families.
3. Open the dyn file (from the end of the message), select the assembly, specify the parameter and value for filtering elements.
4. Run the script.

Dynamo you can find here:

If your nested families are Shared then you would have to manually tab select them to add to the assembly. I would use the Dynamo script posted above to remedy the issue.

Hello ToanDN

really, removing the "shared" option, from nested families, partially solves my problem. But as I need to quantify each item (nuts, washers, screws) that are in the nested families, I cannot give up the "shared" option in the nested families. But I appreciate your quick return ... Thank you very much !!!!

Hello PavelAnd

I appreciate your solution proposal sent so quickly and friendly.

But I´m facing some problems, I don´t undertand much about Dynamo, and he is giving me an error according to the first image attached. I don´t know what he means, but I suspect he is not understanding the type of family, if it is instance, or type.

As shown in the images below, I did a test for both Instance and Type, but both options returned the same error. I don't know where I went wrong, could you help me?

Thank you!!!

PS: Sorry my bad english, i´m use Google Translator.

Hi! You need select assembly. Parameter is correct (instance, not type). Don't forget associate your parameter in nested families and open the view in which you can see the desired assembly and all nested families.

Best regards, Pavel Plotitsyn.

Hello again @PavelAnd !!!!

After your explanation, I was finally able to partially solve my problem. I happen to have approximately 4 or 5 families nested inside each other ..... and as far as I could tell, the routine takes the first level of nested family. See the attached images.

the flange family worked ... it was nested, however, inside the flange .. I have screws and nuts, which are also families nested inside each other ....the flange family worked ... it was nested, however, inside the flange .. I have screws and nuts, which are also families nested inside each other ....First Level familyFirst Level familySecond Level familySecond Level familythird Level family... and etcthird Level family... and etc

is it possible to solve? .. or would i be doing wrong?

Thank you very much again!!!!!

In my example, there are also several nested families in each other. I can’t understand from the screenshot what the problem is in the family. Upload your family, I will try to check the script on it.

Best regards, Pavel Plotitsyn.

Verify parameter association in nested families (in "Distribuicao dos Parafusos.rfa"). Check out the adjusted family below.
