Multiple Detail Levels for the Same Model Category

Hello! I am trying to create multiple levels of detail for the same model category.

Specifically, I am attempting to create fine detail ("double line") for duct sizes above 8" round and coarse detail ("single line") for duct sizes below 8" round in the same view.

All in all, my goal is to create a ductwork drawing that can clearly show enough level of detail for all duct sizes within the same drawing, without having to create a separate view (at a different scale). It appears that drawing duct placeholders in place of duct for 8" round and below, for instance, might help solve my problem? Then I may set the Detail Level in Visibility/Graphic Overrides accordingly, Coarse for Duct Placeholders and Fine for Ducts. That would mean I'd have to redraw my ducts though...

Thanks in advance!

In the family editor, select the elements you want to see at each detail level and use the V/G overrides to control their visibility in each view detail level.

you may be better off creating a filter to give you that result

the filter will manage the level of Detail by selected size

Thanks guys for your suggestions!

kadmonkee,

I attempted your suggestion but I do not see an option to change the Detail Level for the filter unless I am missing something.

Example below will set the highlighted geometry not showing in Coarse scale.

@TTEJW

I sent the message too soon I apologize for sending you down that path before I finished testing

use the 2 suggestion from @ToanDN, @Anonymous that should work for you then.

my thought would have overcomplicated things in the long run

The family editor is not available for ductwork as stated above.  It appears for objects like diffusers, but not for systems like ductwork.  I'm also searching for a way to show double line and single line with a certain cut off point based on duct size.

The only way to accomplish this is to use two views and filters. 1st view will be set to fine or medium detail so tha you show double line. You will then create a filter that hides duct smaller than 8". Your second view will be set up to course detail so that it is single line. You would apply a filter for this view to hide all items larger than 8". Next you will need to place 1st view on a sheet. After 1st view is placed place 2nd view on top of first. The views will snap to each other so the should line up perfectly. Print sheet and impress your office that you accomplished the impossible. As you have discovered ducts are a system family thus the other suggestions will not work regarding modifying the family and you can not use filters to control detail level.
