I have a problem regarding mechanical systems in Revit MEP:

 

Currently, the creation of mech system is crucial for duct flow rate calc and pressure loss calc to work properly. However, for a complex system, I have to break down it into more small systems, otherwise, the calculations will fail to work. But, from an engineering point of view, these small systems still belong to one system.

 

Is there any way to link all these small systems, so I can get a summary of engineering mechanical systems for element selection and management? Currently, I am using an additional parameter to group Revit mechanical systems, but I am looking for a better solution.

Thanks for the feedback, could you give a example about what kind of system you would like to analysis together? and the 'link' means 'connect' in one model instead of through Revit linked file, right? Thanks again!

In order to make the flow calculation work, I modelled two mechanical systems 1&2. However, from mechanical design perspective, these two actually belong to 1 system. In some instance, I need to select all elements under this mechanical system and delete them because the entire mechanical system is not required any more.

 

Is there any way to "group" these two systems, so I can easily select all elements?

Could explain a little bit about what may prevent you for analyzing the system? is it a loop system? here is an example about flow and pressure loss calc, the calc works in the model like below. Thanks again!

Your question is not clear.

 

Are you talking about bridging the gap when the two duct systems are not connected with duct as shown in your example?

 

If so, you may have to change your thinking for working in Revit from defining an air system and move to thinking of duct systems. In your example, it is possible that the air going into the space between the duct systems may get diverted in a any of a number of ways. You need to tell the air terminals how much air they have going through them.

 

Am I on the right track here?
