Linked file, can't place anything?!?

I can't place anything when trying to put plumbing in revit file. After I link the revit file everything is greyed out and I cannot place anything! I have already spent two hours trying to research this topic, to no avail.  I get this message and I have already tried everything, ". You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings."

Does your linked file have view templates? Can you upload a sample so we can see what you see?

You are missing the first part of the warning message, right?

The key to your problem is in the first sentence. You are placing the objects. They just aren't visible in the view. There are many reasons that an element might not be visible. If you could give some detailed information or even share a sample file that exhibits the behavior, we can tell you what you need to do.

Generalities without details are useless in trouble shooting. "Everything is grayed out." and "I cannot place anything." I'm sure are exaggerations and do not give ay indication as to what the problem might be.
