Hi 

I am BIM coordinator in a PMC. Im actually still new and learning Revit Procedures (I think it's a non-ending process of learning).  I am handling 2 Main Contractors on one big project, which involves a lot of complex MEP items

IS there a list where I can easily identify the segregation of items inside an LOD100, LOD200, LOD300, LOD350, LOD400 stages. Google has the answer, but onlys show images. 

 

For example

1. in a concrete COlumn, where does Rebar be done, the Ring? Stirrups? in LOD200, LOD300, LOD350, LOD400? 

 

2. In a Concrete Flooring, where does floor topping falls, the granite/tiling or painting?

 

3. Ducting? where does the diffusers, grilles, equipment, hangers be done? LOD300? LOD350? LOD400?

4. In every discipline, where does the filling up of data be done? like in the type Properties, Property Parameters, Project parameters? For example, An AHU mechanical flow and electrical capacity? 

5. Can I also include, i am always reminding my contractors, not to have an unassigned items in the MEP system browser. But, i hope someone can help me understand the benefits of the connectivity of all of these (ducting, chiller pipes, Fire Fighting, Electrical). My "Raw"understanding about this, is that this Revit files will be turnover to the client for the purpose of Operations and Maintenance. I really wish I can explain to them how Revit helps in the Operations and Maintenance. Because I am being asked the benefits of Revit in Operations and Maintenance. I hope I am making sense here. 

I really wanted to excel Revit-BIM. So I am very eager to know all of these things.

I think one the most complete LOD definitions are from the BIM Forum LOD Spec (https://bimforum.org/resource/level-of-development-specification/). In the PDF, you'll find the original definitions by the AIA and the BIM Forum interpretation of those:

 

LOD 100
The Model Element may be graphically represented in the Model with a symbol or other generic representation, but does not satisfy the requirements for LOD 200. Information related to the Model Element (i.e. cost per square foot, tonnage of HVAC, etc.) can be derived from other Model Elements.
BIMForum Interpretation: LOD 100 elements are not geometric representations. Examples are information attached to other model elements or symbols showing the existence of a component but not its shape, size, or precise location. Any information derived from LOD 100 elements must be considered approximate.


LOD 200
The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a generic system, object, or assembly with approximate quantities, size, shape, location, and orientation. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element.
BIMForum interpretation: At this LOD elements are generic placeholders. They may be recognizable as the components they represent, or they may be volumes for space reservation. Any information derived from LOD 200 elements must be considered approximate.


LOD 300
The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a specific system, object or assembly in terms of quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element.
BIMForum interpretation: The quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation of the element as designed can be measured directly from the model without referring to non-modeled information such as notes or dimension call-outs. The project origin is defined and the element is located accurately with respect to the project origin.


LOD 350
The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a specific system, object, or assembly in terms of quantity, size, shape, location, orientation, and interfaces with other building systems. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element.
BIMForum interpretation. Parts necessary for coordination of the element with nearby or attached elements are modeled. These parts will include such items as supports and connections. The quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation of the element as designed can be measured directly from the model without referring to non-modeled information such as notes or dimension call-outs.


LOD 400
The Model Element is graphically represented within the Model as a specific system, object or assembly in terms of size, shape, location, quantity, and orientation with detailing, fabrication, assembly, and installation information. Non-graphic information may also be attached to the Model Element.
BIMForum interpretation. An LOD 400 element is modeled at sufficient detail and accuracy for fabrication of the represented component. The quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation of the element as designed can be measured directly from the model without referring to non-modeled information such as notes or dimension call-outs.

 

These will provide an overall idea of what type of geometry and information should be included on each level. The XLS file included in the BIM Forum LOD Spec will provide guidelines for the information of the elements.

 

You can start from these overall guidelines and adjust them to you company specific needs, as these sometimes need to tailored. It's also important to point out that there's a newer concept established by PAS1192/ISO19650, in which the focus is to provide your Information Requirements clearly, rather than relying on the more "broad" LOD specifications. This aims to trim off excess information and focus on what actually delivers value to the project. Most likely you won't be able to change this for you current project, but it's something I wanted to point out. That is a big help. Huge Help.

As A Bim Coordinator and as a PMC, shall I require our 2 Main Contractors to Merge this 256 Document in the BIM Execution Plan?...I am only thinking, that this will also settle the dispute in Claims, were percentage of works is being base thru LOD stages (Now that LOD stages is determine already)
