Is button mapping worth the time?

We are transitioning into Revit using building data content. As of now we are just drawing straight out of the content pack using MEP Parts. I've come across button mapping a few times but not sure to what extent it's purpose is. Two issue in particular I'm trying to get by is being able to draw sheet metal without specifications & mismatch connector issues when transitioning pipe types/connector types. In cad we had neither of these issues using parts. Have any of you had any benefits/regrets using button mapping? Trying to figure out if it's a rabbit hole or not before I jump in.
