Insert Point Cloud Error Message

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm working with ReCap 360 Pro and Revit 2016.

I've tidied up and optimized, a point cloud in Recap. I've deleted much of the point data, but I have not removed any of the original mirror balls.

When I attempt to insert the point cloud (.RCP) into Revit, I get an error message:

"Unable to create a Point Cloud instance. The file may be an incompatible format or corrupt."

This is my second try with tidying up the entire point cloud .RCP and then attempting to insert it. When I tried to import the untouched .RCP, Revit said I was able to successfully, but I couldn't find out where it went. I stretched the Section Box for about a mile in each direction and still couldn't locate the supposed point cloud ( all visibility settings were switched 'on'). I wouldn't be able to use the scan in its entirety anyways.

Any ideas would be appreciated. This is the first time I've received this error whilst operating ReCap with Revit.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

I also have the same issue. Would anyone from Autodesk care to respond?

Were you @Anonymous able to solve this issue?

Thank you for your help!

Hello @Anonymous

I never work yet with point cloud, but I know :

1) how to clean a corrupt RVT, and

audit RVT file.JPG

2) how to recover Project Base Point GEOREF-Project Base Point.JPG  and Survey Point (0,0,0) GEOREF-Survey Point.JPG

From an over complete RVT

(a new Architectural Template is better)

GEOREF-Transfer Project Standards-site setting.JPG

3) rename your site location Before inserting anything : https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-et-bim-francais/decalage-au-moment-d-une-importation-dwg/m-p/7696606#M5152

.RCP contains some .RCS files, if it is not linked with the .RCP  properly you may get this type of error message. I would suggest to check your .RCP files in recap, whether it is opening or not.

Please select "Accept solution" if the information was helpful (This allows other users with the same issues to find it higher in search results), or reply back if you need more help!
