Import autocad to revit

Trying to import an Autocad dwg file into revit 2017 keep getting this message:

"Some elements were lost during import. ActiveX(R) and some proprietary components cannot be imported. Try exploding the file in AutoCAD, or setting PROXYGRAPHICS to 1."

I do not know how to do either of these so if someone can clearly explain the steps for how to do this.

Please Let me know if anyone knows how to do this.  The AutoCad project contains several pages of drawings by the way.

The file may contain elements created inna vertical of AutoCAD such as Architecture or MEP. Best is ti have the authoring party export the file to vanilla AutoCAD format before link or import in Revit.

Couldn't you Flatten and Overkill til you got it to a 2D version? Might be worth trying @Anonymous

elect everything, Well to answer your initial question: To explode everything, select every, type EXPLODE, hit enter. To set proxy graphics, type PROXYGRAPHICS, hit enter, press 1, hit enter.

To overkill, select everything, type OVERKILL, hit enter, press okay.

To Flatten, select all, type FLATTEN,  press enter, tpye N, press enter

You could also try changing your view to the side to see if there are any vertical lines.

Can you avoid importing DWG? Maybe it is better to link the DWG instead of importing it.

When importing DWG and getting that message it is difficult to assess what has been lost during import. Sometimes it isn't of any relevance (noting lost), sometimes it doesn't import critical elements of the model. Some workarounds that worked for me in the past:

• If it is 3D information that you want to import in Revit from a DWG, open the DWG in AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP. With those verticals you can export to IFC. IFC can then either be linked or imported.
• Saving a DWG to an older version of DXF and opening that in Revit sometimes clears the error as well.
• Make sure that you're working with solids in your DWG. This usually requires bursting/exploding and then rebuilding stuff towards solids

Hope you can figure out what part of the DWG is giving you the error.
