Hydronic calculations for flow using custom families

Hello,

I get error 'Sizing Failed. Flow for section is 0' when trying to calculate flow (using revit calculation) in a really simple circuit utilising a pump I've made, and I cannot figure out what I've done wrong.

Attached is the pump family and a capture of the circuit and error I get.

I'm fairly sure it's something to do with the hydronic connectors of the pump, as if I disconnect the pump the sizing works fine. I've tried it with the connectors linked, connectors unlinked, etc etc, but so far to no avail.

Any suggestions / pointers?

If the 3 units are what generate the flow rates then they should have connectors set as Preset, one would be hydronic supply, the other would be hydronic return. They must be directional, they cannot be bi-directional.

Pump would usually have Global and Bidirectional connections.

Your return suction connection on your circulating pump also needs to be Calculated, not Preset.

Hi Ian, I've realised I posted with the wrong account before. my bad.

Thanks for the advice, I've now changed to calculated, reloaded the family and still get the same issue.

Could you upload your model and I'll take a look at it?

You need to have your connectors linked and both connectors set to system. Martin Schmid at Autodesk did a great write up on Understanding connectors called getting into the flow. Everything you need is explained in there.

Ive attached another post that talks about a similar issue and applying the flow factor.

There was only one pump in the diagram. Parallel flow considerations shouldn't matter for that simple circuit.

Connectors would normally be Global, Calculated, Bidirectional and I created a small test model to check that it worked.

@FacilityEng2_UK please upload your model if you want more help.
