How to have a line style show one way, but plot another way,

Hello,

I have started with this company called AEI. We are having trouble deciphering between some of are lines because of colors being so close, but if we change it to a different color, then it is to close to a different pipe. The company doesn't want to change fully to dashed or "letter" in line style, due to client requirements. Is there a way to permanently change a line style in a template so, that it can show dashed or with a "letter" in it, in design (model) space and print (paper) space solid? I know you can use filters in a way, but you have to create filter and  apply them to every view on every project. So, I would like to change it in the line styles pre-loaded in template and call it a day. EX: ( I will use a cold supply and return for example) so, these the line are both blue, but so close in color we have to stop and select line to make sure we are connecting to correct pipe and then continue. But, if we could have the returns show up dashed or with a "R" in them, in our working area (model space), but still show up in plots (paper space) as normal solid lines, it would be great. Is this possible? If so, how and is there any reading or video (how to) material on this?

Zach

you need to create all your Line Styles and assign Line Patterns to them

then create all your Pipe Systems and assign a Line Style to that systemCustom Line Patterns.PNGCustom Line Styles.PNGPipe Systems.PNG

Thank you for your response. What you are saying to do, is create a line style with dashed lines, and one with solid lines. Then draw the piping on dashed so it will appear dashed when modeling/drafting. Then apply it to a piping system and apply the solid line style to the system. This will allow the line work/ piping to show dashed in modeling/drafting/design area, but print solid?

No it does not work like that

the parameters of the Line Pattern assigned to the line style and then assigned to the Pipe System.

this promotes consistency throughout your company and removes the users from assigning the wrong line type t oa particular system.

you can only assign 1 single line pattern to any line style or Pipe system.

now you can select a single pipe system and use graphic overrides to assign a different line pattern to the selected elements only.

what ever your set up for in modeling/ drafting/ design area it will print as is defined unless you set up view templates and a filter that changes your Line patterns to be all solid lines when printed

I would not use this approach typically but if you have special requirements it may work for you
