I always get mad when drawing conduit.
1. I love system type in plumbing where you can indicate one pipe as vent and then adding more pipe will be automatically set to vent as well.
In electrical, I have to manually update 'EE system' every time I add conduit or do trim which will end up missing a few elements unspecified. Can this system info inherit from neighbor element automatically when it is created?
2. I want to do conduit schedule that shows how long conduit is in each system. I also want to break it down to areas, says riser, EE room or landscape.
Any workaround other than creating text parameter and assign area one element at a time?
3. Wire. Wire in plan view is not accurate enough for me as I need vertical distance as well.
I try adding parameter 'wiring type' and put in, for example 2xCAT6, in conduit to help me do wire schedule. It is working as long as the conduit has one wire type consistently throughout the run.
Cable tray, for example, always have different wire types. And wires are tapped off from cable tray to other room making it is tedious to do parameter method mentioned above.
Currently, I use conduit as a wire, modeling it thin and reduce bend radius.
What do you guys do with wire measure? I do it for bidding project, so I prefer length accuracy than as-built quality drawing. I don't even connect conduit/pipe to other areas just to keep each area separated.
Plumbing and ducting system name is well decorated rather than electrical service, you can't do like plumbing system by changing one single pipe into other system, logically it is not possible to connect different services conduit like power conduit with telecom etc., that's why the option is not in revit, though if you want to connect then draw the conduit with one system, then at the time of draw next system conduit change the system to another and continue with that.
You can create schedule by each system but if you want to create area basis then you need to do some manual steps like adding parameter area basis then assign them etc.
We usually represents wire by conduit for schedule creation.
Thank you for your contribution.
Now I figure that your method is also the method I currently end up using. It's good to know what other do.
In my country, we can share a junction box for different systems in a branch area, so there will be a lot of conduit connection between different systems.
I'm still annoyed when editing conduit system. For example, when another elbow or cross are added, I have to manually add "System" to that newly added objects. It ends up I miss a few objects or assign wrong system.
I also use small conduit to represent wire. I hate it but I can't find another way.
