Hidden Lines and Gaps in Revit 2015 and 2016

I noticed a difference in how Hidden Lines and line Gaps work between Revit 2015 and 2016 today.

In this view:

Hidden Lines On

I have Show Hidden Lines set to "By Discipline".  The lower pipe passing under the upper pipe is clearly indicated by a combination of hidden lines and line gaps.

When I set Show Hidden Lines to "None"

Hidden Lines Off

Revit 2015 no longer displays the hidden geometry of the lower pipe, but preserves line gaps.  Revit 2016 no longer shows hidden lines or the line gaps, making it very diffucult to discerne pipe locations.

Both of these projects have identical view settings for this view, same filter sets, same linetype settings for "MEP Hidden", and same Mecahical Settings for hidden lines and gaps.

Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?  Or is this a new feature, specific to Revit 2016?

Dear,

Yes, this is a new property in Revit 2016.It is somehow annoying and tricky, however, the Show Hidden Lines by Element tool provides an override for the graphic display of individual elements in the current view. You can use this tool for elements whose categories have the Hidden Lines subcategory.

Note: The Show Hidden Lines by Element tool is not available for:
  • Perspective views.
  • Views whose Show Hidden Lines view parameter is set to All or None. (It must be set to <By discipline>.)
  • Elements in linked models.
  • Revit MEP, or for views in Autodesk Revit when the Discipline parameter is set to Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing

If you need to see your hidden lines you have to select By discipline. If you change your Discipline into Coordination you will have 3 options none, by discipline, and all. In this case, you have to select All to see all the hidden lines.

Well, this is a plumbing assembly I am showing, which would fall under MEP.  I switched the view to Coordination Discipline to see if it gives me better options, unfortunately Coordination seems to turn off all line gaps by default, with hidden lines showing up according to the Show Hidden Lines view property.

I want to be able to set up a plumbing section view, fine detail mode, 1/2" Scale,  that shows line gaps, but does not show hidden lines. Here is an example of a view set up like that in Revit 2015.

I also tried to switch the view to Structural dsicipline to see what would happen.  This kills the Revit.

That visual appearnce only happend with Revit 2015. My guess is that it was not intentional when the added the "Show Hidden Line" parameter w/ Revit 2015 and was "corrected" with Revit 2016.

The options are:

1) Coordination Discpline with no gaps or hidden lines

2) Mechanical Discpline with gaps and hidden lines.

3) Create a new line pattern & line style with a large enough gap. Assign it to the line style used for hidden lines in the Mechanical Settings. Keep in mind this will be used for the whole project. Your results may vary.

Thanks for all the replies everybody!  Since I am not able to turn MEP Hidden lines off globally without negativly effecting other views in the job (Duct work plans and sections), I think I can live with showing hidden lines in my piping sections.  Hopefully future versions of Revit will add more granular control over that aspect of the graphics.
