Grid appearance in black lines vs color printing

I'm working in Revit 2016.

When I print a sheet with the following settings selected...color print settings.JPGcolor print settings.JPG

The grids print as expected as halftone. See next screenshot:

color grab.JPGcolor grab.JPG

However, when I print with black lines, settings shown below.....

blacks print settings.JPGblacks print settings.JPG

the grids come out full tone (see below)

I cannot identify any other settings that change. Any ideas of why this is happening?

Thank you

Grids are funny like that. I think if you plot with grayscale, they will be halftoned. In order to get them to plot gray with black lines assign a gray color to them like 128, 128, 128.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Thanks for the quick rely!

I have tried that and I still get the same result with black lines. Any other ideas?

In the color print, are the grids really halftoned or do they have that color gray assigned to them?

Originally they were true halftone, but as an attempt to work around I had changed them to grey. Currently they are set to both grey and halftone.

Hi @julia7XXQS,

I see from your screenshots that you may have already tried unchecking "Replace halftone with thin lines."  Just in case you haven't tried this, here is the article: Halftone gray lines print black in Revit

I recommend installing and trying  another free PDF writer. I like PDF Creator (by pdforge). A heads up though, they try to get you to install extra stuff in the installation wizard. Just keep your eyes open and don’t select those extras (or DE-select them during the install wizard). Other than that, it’s a quick and simple install.

See this article for additional PDF writers: Revit: PDF export/print options

So here are the steps I recommend:
1. Pick a new PDF writer such as PDF Creator or Cute PDF, Bullzip…etc. (see article above)
2. Install on each Revit users machine (this is machine specific. Needs to go on each computer running Revit)
When you print from Revit, in the Print dialog, now select that new PDF writer specifically.

Hi @julia7XXQS,

I was wondering if the issue clears when Raster Processing is selected?

Thank you,

Thanks, I'll look into a different PDF writer and see what that does.

In regards to vector vs raster, I've tried both options and I get the same result either way.

for anyone stumbling upon this thread because you want your gridlines darker, this video i found on YouTube helped me alot!!! skip to 1:30 (1min 30secs) in to the video to see how you can make specific categories of elements half tone via a check box in the V/G! hope this helped someone!

I'm not used to work on Revit 2016. But maybe when you're plotting with "Black Lines" Revit just ignores the half tone?
Try to just adjust the color of the grids to match the halftone color. It's not an aswer to the question, but it can solve your problem
