Generic Family Templates Missing!

Good afternoon

I'm relatively new to Revit (running 2024) and whilst going through numerous tutorials whilst researching families, I frequently come across an instruction such as "File - New Family - Generic Annotation.rft" , but I do not have that file or anything similar to it saved anywhere on my PC.

For example...

"To create a new annotation family in Revit 2024, start by going to File > New > Annotation Symbol and selecting the appropriate template, such as Metric Generic Annotation.rft. Then, in the Family Editor, sketch your symbol's linework, add labels for text properties, define family categories and parameters, and finally save and load the family into your project."

...or

I'm not finding much about it online either. I've downloaded library content packs but everything is already installed apparently, and I've followed convoluted instructions from Autodesk taking me into the install folder to manually extract files, only the "Generic" series of family templates aren't there either.

If anyone can point me to where I can download the missing files, or better still, share them directly I would be most grateful.

Many thanks

Graham

They've changed the structure over time and not all tutorials will match the new paths.

The libraries are now broken out by language and sometimes further by units (Metric vs Imperial).

The options taken during installation will dictate the starting location for the template file selection dialog.

This location can be changed in Options (in the File menu):

Here is where you will find those similar to the one specified in your post:

ps - You will need to enable Hidden Items in windows file explorer to see the Program Data folder.
