Fitting Family not snapping correctly

I've created a duct fitting family, that does not snap correctly. See video, when placing the fitting, I get a blue dot with the label "endpoint and extension" as opposed to the pink node snap you usually get at the end of ducts. It's aligning, but not snapping, which places it at the wrong elevation, and doesn't attach it to the duct system. However if i place the family, and then drag it, it will snap correctly. Family also attached

I should add, SOMETIMES the blue dot snap will actually connect to the duct, it's very inconsistent.

You connector is not set to fitting type and the width / Height Parameter's on the connector are not mapped. You dont have any Duct Size type parameters in your family either.

It appears to me that you are trying to create an Air terminal with a fitting type attached as one. Either split them or use the Air Terminal Category including flow etc. If im wrong, ignore this comment. 🙂

Changing the connector type to fitting doesn't seem to make a difference. I hadn't mapped height and width as they are fixed for this item, although I added some parameters and it also doesn't seem to make a difference.

I guess you could consider this an air terminal, although we usually don't. It's part of a in-slab duct system, and these are the outdoor terminations(If you're curious, here's the link to the product.) We don't do flow calculations for these, that's the engineers problem, we're the subcontractor. This is for coordination, and to create layout drawings for the install. The square on the bottom of it is actually a wooden plate that gets screwed to the deck in order to recess the boot. But I digress

I tried changing the family category to air terminal and that doesn't seem to make a difference either.

If you leave it as a duct fitting you could make the part type Cap then add it to the routing preferences and then apply it to the end of the duct by right clicking on the duct end and selecting "Cap open end" from the shortcut menu.

Recording attached.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I already do this for my other boot type, which has the same snapping issue as this boot.

It also doesn't really answer the WHY this happens. I'd like to get better at building families and I can't do that if I don't know how this stuff works.
