Ducts elevations tag to measure from the ceiling

Hello Revit users,

Thank you for stopping by.

I was kind of surprised once I found that cant creat a Duct elevation tag which knows the distance from the ceiling to the duct,

The company asked me to make it however once I went to create the family I'v noticed there is no such a parameter to add.

I can have an elevation tag based from the floor to the Duct and thats it .

Tags works by reading parameters from elements. So if an element does not have the relevant parameter you can not tag it.

The only option would be to create a new project/shared parameter and attach it to the relevant categories. Then fill that parameter with the relevant data. You possibly could use Dynamo to help you with automating filling the data.

Ducts are usually installed in relation to the height above the floor or possibly the distance from the bottom of slab above. The ceilings are not usually present when the duct is installed.

Why is that measurement necessary?

Thats what I meant to say in other word.

The distance from the up of the duct to the bottom of the upper slab, Thats the distance that I'v mentioned in the image.

but I didn't find a parameter that I can add in the annotation family !

All I want is to let the tag mesures the distance from the upper slabs lower part to the duct, rather than adding a parameter which mesures from the base level up to the duct upper part,

Installers usualy mesures ducts from upper slabs lower part so they know the space they have to add their ducts,pipes,etc

I wonder why Revit has no such a parameter, and not easy to creat such a one.

That would normally be shown in section with a dimension as you are showing in your OP, not tagged. It certainly isn't a property of the duct unless it is associated with a level that corresponds with the bottom of the slab.

I wanna associate the tag to the upper level bottom slab, but no way to do it because there is no parameter to associate with .

I thought maybe to creat a formula for that.

You need to know the elevation of the bottom of the slab which may or may not be the same as the level that you are dimensioning to in your image. You then need to get the elevation of the top of the duct and subtract. Depending on the extent of this annotation and complexity of the project, this could be prone to errors due to variations in the slab thickness and the user not picking up on it.

I've only ever shown this information in congested areas with varying floor/pad heights that needed additional information to ensure coordination and did it in section views. I wouldn't tag every duct with it. Elevation off of the floor should be enough for the installers to figure out how far from the bottom of the slab above it should be and is much more conducive to tagging in Revit.

We took a decision to make section cuts in different places at each level, then mesure the distance between Duct upper and upper slabs lower, after that manually write down the distace on the plan 😞
