Duct Tap issue

Newbie here....See attached jpg. I am having problems with duct branches. When I 'extend' duct into another duct, the correct fitting is automatically placed (as shown on the left duct). When I try to draw a new piece of duct out from the centerline of an existing duct, it looks like the duct on the right. No fitting. what am I doing wrong.

Hi RobertJames

When you draw a new duct check to see if the Automatically Connect option is enabled.  It's in the ribbon in the Modify/Place Duct panel.
