Duct Orientation

It's killing me trying to figure this out. I'm trying to connect an air terminal to a main duct, but for some reason, the vertical duc that is connected to the air terminal doesn´t maintain its "Widht and height" orientation just like the horizontal duct. And the air terminal is in its correct orientation too.

disconnect the air terminal from the duct

select the Air Terminal and then the space bar to rotate the Air terminal 90 degrees

then reconnect the duct to the air terminal

Missed it by that much. The OP said that he air terminal is oriented correctly. If he rotates it, it won't be oriented correctly.

 

Now, if he switches the width and the height values of the diffuser after rotating, that might make the vertical duct maintain the desired width and height.

good call, @RobDraw

depending on how fancy the air terminal family is the orientation may not matter (supply is a box with an X  inside) unless there are flow Arrow designations the orientation should not come into play.

but you option certainly should work without even rotating the terminal

If you switch them without rotating the diffuser, it won't be oriented correctly. You seem to missing that key bit of information.

No I am not missing that.

you are changing the properties of the connector within the family, not the orientation of the terminal.

based on the info provided by the OP the image shows a square terminal.

we do not know how that family was created so we can guess on somethings and provide help.

try providing help without sounding so condescending.

If you could see what I'm talking about it wouldn't sound condescending.

 

Of course we are talking about the orientation of the connector, it's a square diffuser.

 

What I am saying is that the connector settings for the diffuser vs the duct might be mixed up, L vs. H. i.e. the L in the diffuser has the same value as the H in the duct when it should be the same as the L.

 

Get it?

obviously there is a breakdown in what you are trying to say and what I am understanding.

my suggestion was to disconnect the duct and rotate the terminal was not correct or thorough.

 

a better suggestion would have been to disconnect the vertical duct from the terminal, confirm the sizes matched in the appropriate parameters H & W

then reconnect the terminal to the horizontal run of the duct (if Height =12 and Width =16") it needs to be orientated the same.

 

in this test I did not need to rotate the terminal itself, I created another family Type as shown in the image.

in clear and simple terms this method worked I'm sure there may be other methods out there

i adjusted the family type to suite the needs of this example.

Thank you very much for your participation guys,

 

   I attached the air terminal that i select for this project.(Duplicate the neck to 16"x12")

 

this is what happening to me:

 

   i draw an horizontal and vertical duct, both the same size .. and i added a supply difuser with a 16"x12" duct branch, both the same conditions. the only difference is that one is horizontal and the other is vertical, AND extrangely the vertical one, change the orientation of the duct that is connected to the air terminal.(see attached )

 

  The horizontal is correctly connected to the air terminal, so i decided to change the North of the project, while i find an aswer for this.(see attached)

 

PD. Sorry for my english. i hope you understand my explanation.

When you draw a vertical duct off a horizontal duct the width and height parameter values swap round for no particular reason.

 

Change the values to suit and it should work just fine.

If Revit doesn't do it right, just fix it!

 

I've done it countless times and you got me thinking. Sometimes, I find it easier to fix what Revit doesn't do what I want it to do, than try to make it do what I want on the fly, IYKWIM.
