Duct Fabrication Colour

Hi Guys,

I want to change the the colour of the attached fabrication part to match the adjacent duct.

Can someone please walk me through how to do this please.

I did ask in an earlier post if this fitting could be assigned to the same system as the duct and then it would colour match but no one got back to me so hence this simpler question.

Thanks

Just to clarify, is one part a fabrication part and the other part a duct family piece? Are they both fabrication parts?

One part is a section of duct, that’s in blue and is part of a system that I have set up to be in blue.
The other in grey is a fabrication piece. It doesn’t react like normal fittings, bends etc which take on the connected duct colour and system.
The main thing for me is the colour as some of my plants are very complex and the different colours that I have set up help heaps in others understanding what I am asking of them.

Yea unfortunately fabrication parts can not take on system information at all. That includes color. The only way to control fabrication part colors consistently is with filters.

I would recommend setting up a project parameter for the MEP Fabrication duct category called "Revit System" or something along those lines, and building out filters to match your system colors. You would have to fill out the project parameter field for the fabrication parts so they get caught by the filter.

If you are regularly using fabrication parts and maintaining your own database of parts then it is better to set up long term filters based on fabrication service names or abbreviations into your project template. But I'm assuming this is not a regular thing here and the project parameter solution might work better for you.

If you need the fab parts to convey airflow, pressure drop information, or other system info unfortunately your SOL.

Thanks for the responses guys, appreciated.

I have no idea how to do filters so you would have to talk me thought that, if you have time.

I tried the deletion of the ductwork system type, reconnected the duct to the fabrication fitting, then got the duct back to the system type with colour but that didn't reflect in the fabrication fitting.

I'm not concerned about airflow, pressure drop information, or other system info , I just want it to be the same colour.

I thought it might be easier if I attached the model so here it is.

Thanks

Just wondering if I am going about this in the wrong way?

Maybe I should be trying to place a duct fitting between the two sections of duct although I haven't worked out how to do that 😞

Guys thanks for your help but I have been unable to find a solution to getting a fabrication fitting to colour up to match my ducts.  I did manage to get a filter to work but only in Shaded Mode and I always use Realistic Mode as that best presents my projects.

I did however find another solution.  The standard REVIT duct transformation has limited capacity to do unusual transformations and a friend shared their transformation with me and that connected up perfectly to one duct and then I just had to adjust the length, up and side adjustments to connect to the other duct.  Job done!

He also gave me adjustable T fittings too which was a big help.

Till the next time!

I suspect you are combining design ducts and fabrication duct parts. That is why the parts are not adopting the colours of the duct system.

Attached is a model with a design duct which is on a system which is purple and a couple of fabrication parts which are green by default because that is the setting in Object Styles on the Manage ribbon.

A simple filter has then been applied to fabrication ductwork using a text string under Comments parameter for each part.

This is just an example. Its better if you have your own shared parameter and you can have different filter values for different colours.
