design to fabrication removing transitions

This has always happened to me since the inception of fabrication parts in Revit. Whenever I attempt to switch my duct design parts to fabrication parts it deletes transitions. However, it only removes them if I have the design transitions justified, doesnt seem to matter what direction they are justified. If its not a center to center transition it wont create them. What I have been doing is simply manually placing the deleted fittings and justifying them manually. This is pretty time consuming. Does anyone know why this happens?

Hi JohnBIM,

This is a known limitation in Revit that justified transitions will not swap when running Design to Fab.  It's recommended to use the Route and Fill feature to add transitions in the locations where the fitting wasn't swapped.  Just make sure that there is room between the straights for the transition.

Hope that helps,

I do route and fill sometimes and others I build the transition. The reason being is sometimes I need a transition to be below a certain length and route and fill doesnt give one to meet these criteria all the time. Just out of curiosity is this being looked into or is it just something we have to live with? Also, if it's something we will just have to get used to do you think it would be prudent to simply model duct with fab parts rather than design parts if we are going to need to convert them anyway?

I don't think this is in the immediate plans, but there are probably improvements that could be made to Design to Fab to give better support for certain situations.  You might want to make a request on Revit Ideas if it's not there yet.  If there are enough votes for a request, it will need to be reviewed by the team and would raise the priority.

I can't really tell you if you should model from the beginning with fabrication parts.  It depends on if you need to use the systems, calculations, and other features that are only supported by the design content.

Ok, thank you. Yes I put an idea on the idea board already.

Hello @Anonymous ,

Could you share the link for your idea, please?

I have someone reported the same matter and wanted to route him to vote on your idea.

Thank you.
