Default Level Name

My coworker is having a problem with Level naming in Revit 2020. When he places a new level, it appears as "Mechanical 7." if he places them after that, they appear as "Mechanical 8" and so on. There are no Levels in the project that are named like that. Is this a template issue? Is there a way to change the default Level naming?

Did you double click on level and try to change your name?

There are previously given levels from level 1 to level 6 in their views.Find and delete thes

By default Revit names a new level using the label of the last created level and the next incremental number so in your project or template the last created level must have been Mechanical 6.

If you change the newly created Mechanical 7 to Level 01 or whatever then all other created levels will be Level 02 etc.

Having said that though are you not copy/monitoring architectural levels and adopting their names since that would be the norm?

@hakanern, I know how to change the name of a Level. That isn't the concern. I am asking about default names.

@iainsavage Ultimately, what I've described isn't how my workflow works, and usually I'd copy monitor the Architectural levels. My coworker was mostly curious, I think - but he's a beginner at Revit and was working in an old un-updated template. What's weird is that there was no level named "Mechanical 6" or anything remotely similar. I guess that answers my question, kind of?

There might not be a Mechanical 6 level now, but the last level created probably had that name and was then deleted - Revit would still retain that as the default naming for any future levels. The solution is as I said, open the template create a level called WhatEverYouWant 01 and then every other level will be incremented from that format.
