Copying from one Project to another

Hi Everyone

I have drawn many large peces of ductwork in one project, and would like to copy them from this project into another project, where I can line them up wth existing details.

However, in my program, I only appear to be ale to make a local copy of the work (within the project) rather than the equivalent of copy/paste. I do not wish to draw all of the work again in this other project, nor do I wish to link the ductwork into the other project, however I did notice an option to link, then bind one project to another. Is this a good solution? Is there a better solution?

Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

Both files have to be open.

When you copy (either Ctrl+C or Modify tab copy to clipboard) than paste (either Ctrl+V or Modify tab paste options)

You should have no problem.

Where the problem does exist is when there are "relationships" with two elements.

Like if something needs a host or an element is dimensioned to a level.

In not an advocate of linking than binding than ungrouping. You take the risk of duplicates, errors and unnecessary data cluttering up your model. Plus a 10MB file is going to give you an alert and that is usually smaller than a template.

In the ACAD days when we'd do this it would rename all the layers, who knows what happens behind the scenes in RVT.

Have you tried the copy/monitor tool? A very skilled BIM manager just suggested to me for a similar issue.

Copy/monitor only works with certain types of elements.

Walls, floors, levels, grids etc

MEP fixtures like air terminals, light fixtures etc. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/EN...

It also only works with a linked file.

The method outlined in this ten year old post is for everything else.
