Copy/Create similar object issue

Hi all,

I have an object from Electrical equipment and I would like to do a copy or create similar. 

As I click copy/create similar, the new object does not look like the same. It seems you have something like another view of the same object. (i.e. you have a square originally, and the new object is a rectangular but they are the same type)

I cannot understand what is going on.

Are the dimensions controlled by Instance parameters?

Does this family use a face to be placed?

If yes, change the face/workplane selection before copying.
