Copied families visible in work view + 3D but not in plot view

Hello everyone,

I have created several groups that I need multiple times. These groups contain some pipes and attached detail groups with dimensions and tags which are all visible in the workview.

However, I am now regularly experiencing problems when copying them;
Sometimes, in the plotview, not all pipes are visible, meaning dimensions and tags are not displayed as soon as I activate the detail group. This is because they cannot find the hosts. Also, it is not always the same pipes that are not visible.

Everything in the group is in the same workset, and if I create a 3D view of the group where some pipes are not visible, they are actually visible in the 3D view.

If I place the group again, other pipes may have disappeared, whereas those that were not visible just now become visible again. And after doing this multiple times, the correct view eventually appears.

By now, the problem does not only occur when copying groups. It also occurs when copying just a few families, not groups, in the workview. Without installing any add-ins or importing any families at all.

How can this problem be solved?

Thank you for your responses.

I suggest initially that you check:-

  1. what view filters are present in the view that you are pasting into
  2. view range of the view that you are pasting into
  3. phase and phase graphics filters of the view that you are pasting from and into.

Hi @iainsavage

The problem is now also occurring during normal copying/ not just with groups. This is despite the fact that I haven't installed any add-ins or imported any new (external) families.

The group/families that I have to copy multiple times are all located on the same view, the work view. This concerns an apartment building with quite a few units, but only 3 unit types for which I have also created 3 groups.

So the view range is no different, and there is no difference in terms of phase either.

If I want to copy something (work view), that is not a problem. It is simply visible then. However, in the plot view, 9 out of 10 times not everything is immediately visible. This is despite the fact that it has been copied and this is also visible in the 3D view.

Tagging and dimensioning pipes therefore does not work in my plot views because the pipes are not visible.

To give a better idea of what I mean, I have added a video.
In this, I first show in the plot view that nothing has been modeled in house 53 yet. Next, in the work view, I copy multiple pipes to house 53. These are all visible in the workview. If I then return to my plot view, you see only a few pipes, and if I then go to my 3D box, everything is visible.

From what you describe and the title of your post this is a visibility problem in your view, not a copy/paste problem.

You need to examine your plot view settings to figure out what in those settings is suppressing visibility of the families.

This post might help:

But how is this possible?

I have one group where everything is visible. I copy this multiple times;

The first time, a huge number of families have disappeared. As a result, the group size also becomes smaller. The second time, the group seems to remain just as small, but then it jumps back to approximately its original size. Instead of a great many families, only a few lines are now missing. And from the third copy onwards, everything is displayed correctly.

I only used the copy function once, so I dragged the group down somewhere multiple times. In between, I didn't change anything at all.

If I were to ungroup this group and then select all the individual families and copy them, the same thing happens. Then this isn't visible, then that is, only that isn't, etc.

If the objects are visible in your 3D view or other views then they do exist in the model.

If they are not visible in your plot view then they are still in the model, you just can't see them.

I watched your videos again.

It seems to be pipes at a higher level which are not visible in parts of the view?

Is there a Plan Region on the view?

I don't have a plan region in my view.
And to give an even clearer picture of what my installation looks like, I have included a small 3D view here of the device and the routing of the pipes connecting to it.

In your image, you do indeed indicate the pipes that are at a higher level than the other pipes.
However, that is not the case everywhere above the device. A bend needs to be made there to get underneath the other pipes (shaded orange). Looking at the installation visible in the bottom left of your image, you can see only 1 of these 2 "bent" pipes connected to the device (shaded green).
The other (yellow) is not visible.
It is actually one pipe trace that has disappeared here, entirely. But...

copy problemen 3.png

If I copy this setup visible in the other image multiple times (same project, same view, same workset), some parts of the trace are not visible in the copies.

This is despite the fact that the pipes are completely connected to each other.

So I really don't understand why I can see that family one time but not the next, and why I have to copy multiple times to eventually make everything visible. This is despite the fact that they are actually present.

But those invisible pipes are not visible in the sheets either. That is quite important, though, if they are going to use the sheets on the construction site.

I still think this is a visibility issue but to help you any further you would need to upload the model, or upload a partial sanitised model which is still exhibiting that behaviour.

We just solved it with a single check in between.

Instead of synchronizing with ACC, we saved the project locally. We then opened this local project with R25 instead of R24.

It took a while because everything had to be upgraded and there were some error messages (disconnects/ no hosts).

If we subsequently copied the pipes here, there were no problems.

Next, I reinstalled R24 (the same and latest version 2024.3.5), reopened the ACC model, and copying was no longer a problem here either.

We are using a few add-ins. I still need to install these. Instead of installing them all one after the other, I will now check every time after installing one add-in whether that add-in might be causing the problems.

In any case, thank you in advance for your time and help.
