Controlling Revit nested links

Hello, I am trying to get a view template to control levels shown in the arc Revit file linked to my project, the later has several linked arc files as well, these links are nested in the arc Revit file that's nested into my main project. However I can't get the view template to control the view of levels by linked files, it always prompts me to choose a specific level. Screenshot attached.. thanks

Thank you for your posting @Anonymous . 

Second option "By linked view" will bring existing settings from the specific "View" from linked model, which is why you need to select the view first. 

You can choose "Custom" and select the detail level of the view.
