Connector problem

Hello,
I have a problem with a Revit family  (MEP, category Mechanical Equipment, it cannot be Generic Model) and I’m looking for help because the situation has become inconsistent.

I am working on a family (vessel) with several pipe connectors with a lot of type different system type. All of them are set to:

Connector Type: Fitting

Despite this, after adding a new connector:
Revit starts assigning Hydronic Supply

More importantly, even when I draw a new pipe without using this family, I immediately get:

System Type = Hydronic Supply

Previously, pipes were created “neutral” (without an assigned system), and only later I assigned a system to them.

The problem occurs for every diameter (DN32, DN65, etc.), so it is not related to size / routing preferences.

What already checked:

  • all connectors have identical settings
  • I tried Global instead of specific systems
  • I removed and recreated connectors
  • changing the diameter does not affect anything
  • the problem appeared only after editing the family (adding a new connector)
  • I performed purge unused for the family
  • I copied the family into a new file (without that new connector)

How can this be fixed? How can I restore the model to its previous settings?

Thank you in advance for any specific suggestions — I need a solution within the same file; I cannot create a new project because this one is about 90% complete.

Pipes were never created "neutral" - any new pipe added to the model will initially adopt the last used system setting unless you change it or connect to a family which has the system set in the connector properties.

Here the default is Hydronic Supply

I changed it Sanitary via the drop-down in Properties before placing a pipe.

The next pipe that I create defaults to the last used value i.e. Sanitary

It has always worked that way.

Regarding your family, for Mechanical Equipment you would usually assign system specific connector settings (Hydronic Supply, Hydronic Return, Domestic Cold etc) otherwise if you have multiple system types connected to the family (for example in a boiler, chiller, radiator, fan coil unit, water heater etc) Revit would have no way of working out which system type to assign to each connected pipe and system calculations would fail because it cannot differentiate the systems.

Global connectors are usually reserved for "in-line" equipment such as a single fan or pump with the system properties being determined by other equipment in the network such as terminal equipment and main plant items.

Hello,

If you set you connector as Global, you can define the system type for the connector, but it must be done before connecting a pipe, to avoid using a wrong system.

My tip is to add an information to Connector Description regarding the connector use.

Then in the project environment, select your element and click on the Piping command.

Define the Pipe System you want to assing to the connector.

Select the connector you want to assing the system, here the value in the Connector Description helps a lot.

Now, if you connect a pipe in the Connector 1, it will be a Sanitary system pipe.
