Hi there,

 

I understand the process of applying filters to select a colour for a system but when I do this it will only change the colour of the objects wireframe and not the surface itself, what is the process in which to achieve complete colour change? Is this to be done in properties/graphics window?

 

Any help appreciated

Yes, you apply a filter to a view and then set the graphics properties of that filter. For example:

These colour changes will not show in rendered view though will they, I have seen in practise that pipe and vent systems have full colour changes applied is this done through properties?

Ok, that is a different question. No these colours will not show in rendered view. In rendered view Revit will use the assigned materials. So the trick is to assign a material to your piping system. You can do this like shown:
