Cannot turn off linked model categories

I've looked at several similar forum posts, but none of them answer my problem... I've reasonably new to Revit, but think I have a pretty good understanding of the program.

I'm working on an MEP project and have linked the architects model.  When it opens, the floor plans are not correct, so I go to the Revit Links (inside Visibility Graphics) and I've set the correct floor plan by changing from "Host View" to "Linked View" and selecting the correct floor plan.

I now want to turn off all the architects dimensions, door tags etc.to clean up the linked model. However  going to the Visibility Graphics and un-checking the annotation categories (even all of them) does not turn anything off in the linked model. I've tried this is in the individual drop down menus for all categories as well as with the parent categories and nothing works... If I open the architects model I can turn them all off there, so this is not making any sense to me...

I'm sure this is something simple, but it's driving me crazy trying to find it... any advice would be appreciated! I've attached 2 screenshots in case you can spot the issue....

Not to be blunt, but from what I see is that you are missing a good understanding of how Revit works. I would definitely advice to take  a course (books, video course, classical) to understand the concepts of Revit. That does not matter we all have been there. Back to your question.

Here an example of an architect file (linked.rvt). On Floor Plan Level 0 you see some walls with dimensions and some model text

Linked.PNG

If I link this model in my own project (host.rvt) I see this.

In my own project I also have a wall with a dimension and model text.

Host.PNG

As you can see no dimensions/annotations on the elements of the linked file from the architect (only the walls and model text).

This is as expected. Annotations (many 2D elements) are view dependent, so only visible in the view you have created them in. As you now look at Level 0 of the Host file, the dimension belonging to the architect file (linked.rvt) have not been created in that particular view, so not visible.

Now when I switch to visibility graphics override and set it to Linked View "Floor Plan: Level 0" you ask Revit to use that view from the linekd file. Because in that view the dimensions of the architect were created (linked.rvt) they now show up in my project (host.rvt).

So the approach you are taking is not getting the desired results. It depends all on what you want to (not) see. It might take some other linked file settings, maybe some filters. However that would require ab ette understanding of your needs and how your file and the one of  architect are made.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

"By Linked View" is an all or nothing setting. You can't turn off what you don't need.

Let's start from the beginning. Why were your floor plans were wrong?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

thanks Louis

However all those steps were done correctly and I understand all those principles.

It turns out to be something really simple and ridiculous (and an oversite my side). The architect had so many overlapping levels on their drawings that I did not see that the template levels were "missing" and very far down the page.... aligned them and all Ok now

Yes.... a foolish mistake.... 😛
