Cable tray parameters empty

Hello,

A colleague of mine noticed something funny in cable trays.

When you've drawn your cable tray system, you fill in any information about the cable tray in it's parameters.

All done and well until, you need to change the cable tray, to let's say a different type, and then you continue drawing with that type. when you do that, it loses all it's filled in parameters and you can start all over..

Anyone has an idea what's up with that?

Shouldn't the cable trays hold their information, no matter how hard you change the routing?

Screen1: standard cable tray filled in parameters

Screen2: changed to other type

Screen3: try to continue drawing, all parameters are empty

I think this is mainly happen due to the text parameter instance proprieties, if you change it to type then it will be functioned properly as per your requirement.

Or you need to fill the parameters data after all the necessary modification done. Select the entire cable route by tab button and put the required data. Hope this will work.

sadly these families can't be edited as they're standard revit families.

Second option i halfway agree with you. however, what if you end up having to do revision drawings and need to change a part of the cable trays.

They'd lose all information simply because you change one thing.

I think this is a mistake within revit

It seems that the parameters are manually added from the project parameter option. If you have the permission to edit those parameter then delete the instance and create new type parameter with same name.

We know very well that the instance parameters data may vary element to element and that is why the data showing empty every time and we have to put the data manually.
