Blank keynotes on sheets

Long time reader, first time poster here:

I'm having an issue with my keynotes showing up blank on my sheets in Revit 2017. I think the issue comes from the fact that I chose hosts for the keynotes in the architectural model as well as our MEP model. All the keynotes that referenced the architectural model worked, and the ones that referenced our model were blank. For a quick fix I reassigned all the keynotes referencing our model to reference the architectural model.

Now, I want to reference only our model, so that if they update the architectural model it won't move my keynotes all around. I have deleted/reassigned all the keynotes that referenced the arch model to reference ours, and now all are showing up blank. If I place a new keynote that references our model, it works. I am wondering if there's a way to get the numbers to show up in the keynotes without having to redo them all, because I've already done this a few times.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the community! Smiley Happy

This incident is being investigated for a possible cause and resolution as there has been a couple of reports relating to Blank Keynote issues.

Did you possibly read through THIS POST and THIS POST posted on the Autodesk Knowledge Network for possible temporary fixes?

I hope this helps! Smiley Happy

@rudi.rouxWow, I read through that first article, but I hadn't seen that second one until you posted it. The cutting then pasting to the same place worked. Thank you so much!

So it seems cutting and pasting back to original was just a temporary solution to my issue. When the model is sync'd then closed completely and reopened, the same issue occurs. Any more thoughts on this?

Edit: It only occurs to some of my unit plans on their sheets. One or two of the three or four will display keynotes correctly, but the others will not. Why is it breaking inconsistently?

I am also having this issue.  I noticed that on the help site, this has been listed as Resolved in Revit 2017.2 and in Revit 2018. (See attached link.)

I found that this is not the case; I have updated myself as well as other users in my firm to 2017.2.1 and we are still facing the issue of blank key note tags at seemingly arbitrary times.  We have been using the workaround of cutting and then pasting 'aligned to current view'; but this doesn't work every time.  We often get an error message stating that the key note tag cannot find a host. Not to mention we have to perform the cut/paste frequently which slows down our productivity considerably.

Is there any solid fix for the issue or will we forever have to cut/paste our key notes in Revit 2017?

We are having the same issue. How has this not been fixed yet? It's a major issue causing excess time and errors in our drawings.

Same issue with some of our files. This generally is occurring with links. We have unit plans linked into a building and keynoted in the building file.

@shawn

Open each of the link files and set the Key Notes file location to be the same as that of your model.
