Basic Pointers for Duct system Modeling (Newbie)

Hi all!

I'm very new to the MEP modelling in Revit. I have been watching some videos but i think i need some specific answers. I'm trying to trace the MEP pdf drawings and hopefully create a MEP model. I have this basic doubt. Please see the picture below. It is a linear air supply device. How should i model this. Run a 18 in duct and clode it and install a linear device parallel to the duct? the drawings show perpendicular but does that matter? Should we first look at the product data of the diffuser and model it? These are my first steps in MEP so please bear with me.. Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous,

To model this you have to check on the linear diffuser type and duct connector position.

Normally in these kind of connections a flex duct connects the linear diffuser and the duct.

You have to place the linear Diffuser perpendicular to your duct in the assigned elevation or offset. and in a way that the connecter is in the direction of the duct and then try to connect the duct and diffuser with flex duct with advised flex duct length range(normally less than 1.8m).

Hi @Anonymous

As @S.Jebakumar mentioned, Linear Diffusers with Plenums would generally be connected with Flex Ducting as this holds various advantages.

When installed in a ceiling, there will generally need to be additional support added to the ceiling OR threaded rod supports fixed from the soffit to the linear diffusers OR by means of a Plenum Box. There are actually numerous ways.

I attached two standard Linear Diffusers with Plenum Families for you if you can't find them.

Below is also a quick example of how this can be drafted in Revit.

I hope this helps! Smiley Happy
