arc wire

I'm trying to draw in some arc wire for some vrf boxes. the vrf boxes are cad files because they are a unique size and shape and rather than go in and edit family's for vrf boxes to make them actual revit familys i just want to leave them as a linked cad file. when i go to just draw wire between them it just disappears, so does the "wire" function in revit require me to actually connect it to a host or can in float free in space and i just dont know how?

It depends, they can float free.  What you will run into is that if you are trying to connect them to other devices or homerun back to the panel, you will have issues with the homerun arrow.  You could end up with a homerun at the wrong end of your circuit or the homerun arrow may not appear at all depending on how you are circuiting them.  You may need to place a family with no symbology and an electrical connection over the VRF's so that you have something to complete the circuit.

I believe you can draw a wire from nothing to nothing. At least I can in my Revit 2017. Usually when things disappear for me, it's a visibility/graphics issue, but I get a message saying that what I just drew isn't visible. You're getting no message? Have you checked that wires are visible in your model categories?

i had wires turned on and i wasnt getting any message, but i did just go in and turn them off and back on and i could see them so i dont know, weird glitch i suppose.
