I imported a lamp but it doesnt have a light source 

Is there a way to edit the family and add a light source?

Yes.  Edit the family, change it to Lighting Fixture category if it is not already, and tick Light Source box from properties.

Here is a short, generic, video on how to add a light source to a family.  once your light source is set up, it can be repositioned as needed. I recommend aligning and locking to refence planes 😊.
