adding filters for different kinds of ducts

Hey everyone.

I want my plan to display diffrent kinds of ducts in different colours.

i've opened an example revit file that does this, with 3 kinds of ducts (supply, return and exaust)

i figured out the colours determend on vv>filters.

filters.JPG

in my case i want to have more then 3 kinds of ducts, thus i have to add more filters. i found that i add filers on view>>filters>>new. great.

filters.JPG

Now i'm wondering: "filters" makes the sepeation using "system classification" of the ducts. (as shown on attached photo)

How can i add a system classification" of my own? like "smoke ducts" "emergency ducts" ""cold air ducts" etc?

after i add a system calssifiacation (which called "system type" on properties) - how do i change a duct from being "supply" to one of my new types?

Duct Systems.pngHello,

Instead of using filters, I suggest you to use the graphics overrides of the duct systems.

Through the project browser open the type properties and set the overrides you want, the best part of it is that it changes the graphics in the whole project at once!

From the correspondent system, you can duplicate it and set its graphics.

Thanks for your answer 🙂

correct me if i wrong:

chaging it through "filers" has some pros:

- It will affect not only one family (like ducts) but the rest mechanical families like air terminals..

- it's possible to override with pattern and not only contur lines.

 is it right?

Hello,

Duct System settings will affect all parts connected to the system, components connected to more than one system remains black.

You can set a color, line weight and hatch pattern for the surface.

With filters you may have more options, but you will have to apply the filter to all views, it can be desirable or not, depends on your documentation.

i'm trying to do it with filters, but it fails - i think it's beacuse i need to make more "system classifications".

is it posibble to duplicate a"system classificaion" (for example "fresh air")?

Hello,

Yes, it is possible, in the project browser, expand the family tree and select the system you want to duplicate, right click and select duplicate and the edit the properties, or open the type properties and duplicate. Maybe duplicate Supply Air fits your need.

Hello,

Now your doubt is more clear!

Unfortunatelly Revit offers a hard coded set of systems, in the case of HVAC, three types, Exaust Air, Return Air, Supply Air. As I am not a HVAC user, I can´t say what makes them different, but I believe this basic classification will be used for energy analysis (THIS IS A GUESS). In piping the classification changes the way the system is calculated, but it doesn´t seem to be the case in HVAC systems.

You can create a diffent system type, but the classification MUST be one of the three basic ones. You can customize the information that appears in the type properties dialog and override the colors.
