Added ghost sheets while printing

Trying to print sheets to Bluebeam PDF, and when choosing multiple sheets at a time and saving as separate files, more sheets than chosen show up in a bubble window. Say i choose 2 sheets, the bubble window will say "you have chosen 5 sheets". Then a fatal error occurs and Revit crashes.

Yes i make sure to click "Check none" before choosing my sheets so i know none are selected prior. Yet hidden unknown sheets are added when clicking OK to commence printing.

Huh that's odd - did you try another PDF printer to see if the issue persists with other plotters? That would help narrow down if it's a Bluebeam plotter issue or something else. I had used bluebeam PDF as my main go to for years, never had what you described happen. Does making 1 PDF sheet at a time crash? Not a long term solution, just curious to understand what's causing the issue.

Curious to hear if anyone else has seen this or know what the fix is.

i never experienced such problem with printing to PDF. but since Revit started to include a native PDF export tool, i never used a PDF printer. Why not use Export function?

The problem seems to be with the choice of "Create separate files. View/sheet names will be appended to the specified name", and choosing "Selected views/sheets" in the print range. Printing one sheet at a time through choosing "current window" in the print range works just fine though, which cancels out the creating separate files option. But you're right, printing one sheet at a time is not a long term solution

Maybe I'm not using it correct, but using Revit's native export function doesn't seem to work either, I choose my sheets, choose print size, etc., and then nothing, Bluebeam doesn't auto open the files, and they don't show up in file explorer, I don't even get a prompt to save them to file explorer.

Alright I have a few more questions:

  • Which version of Revit? The Select Views/Sheets was updated at some point in past few years.
  • Does "Combine multiple selected views/sheets into a single file" work? If you have Bluebeam I usually do that since you can make smart page labels based on titleblocks, then export after.  Either way you shouldn't have a crash, just a side note.
  • Can you confirm you do the below steps before the crash?

With a print dialogue like this:

After you click "Select..." you hit Check none and select (2) sheets - but it says Selected: 5 at bottom?

Then Revit crashes after hitting Select? What error message does it show?

I am using Revit 2024.2, I have chosen 2 sheets, i click check none about 10 times to be sure, then reselect my 2 sheets, and it says in the bottom right of the window that only 2 sheets are selected. I click select, then a pop up window about saving these settings for use in a future Revit session, I click no. That brings me back to the main print window, I click OK, then a pop up window says "You have chosen to print 5 views/sheets as separate files. Do you wish to continue?" Clicking yes crashes Revit, as does trying to combining multiple sheets into one file.

Update to newest Revit version

and try the export . I'm not sure to say, it just works once you set the correct sheetsize etc.

Yes I agree with HVAC-Novice, I can't reproduce the error on my machine. Agree PDF-Export on newest version of Revit works for me.

Your plotter still should not be crashing in this case. The only other thing I can think of is "Setup" of plot under settings in window - maybe there is some issue with that. Never happened to me, just trying to troubleshoot based on what you've noted.

So we're going to try the upgrade, but if it is a setting somewhere, and the the upgrade doesn't solve the problem, I'm stuck scratching my head. The template that this file was created from also has this issue, therefore any model created going forward has it, and we cant seem to pinpoint what the root "setting" or whatever it is, is the issue.
