3D Solid CAD Import

When I import a 3D Solid into Revit, it only appears in the View type that I import it into. i.e, if I import it in a plan view, it only appears in plan views and not sections or 3D views.

Does anybody know how I get the object to show up in all views?

Thanks

Make sure "current view only" is not checked.

Are you sure?  Can you select the Import in that plan view and show its properties?

So if I import in plan, you can see object in all Floor Plans and Ceiling Plans, but not section or 3D views. But if I import in 3D View, you can see in any 3D view but not plans or sections. Import in section, can not see in plans or 3D views.

No.  If you uncheck that box when import or link then it should show in any view.

Works okay for me. Is there something in your view settings which stops the cad import being visible?

Any reason why you are not bringing the SAT into a family first?

I do not think so. I am importing into a family 1st, and that is where the problem starts

In Revit, when you import a 3D Solid into a specific view, it will only be visible in that view by default. To make the object visible in all views, you will need to change its visibility settings.

Here are the steps to make the object visible in all views:

  1. Select the object that you imported
  2. Go to the Properties palette
  3. Under the Visibility/Graphic Overrides section, change the View Visibility to "Visible in all views"
  4. Repeat the steps for each instance of the object if you have multiple instances in your model

Alternatively, you can also use the "Visibility/Graphic" tool in the "Modify" tab on the ribbon to change the visibility settings of the object.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other question.

Try this.  I imported it in using centimeter for Units then move it to the center of the family.  Somehow the CAD file is way off the WCS origin.

I can not open your RFA, saved in a later version than 2020 ( I don't have access to any later yet). Perhaps it is a 2020 issue?

I tried your suggestion, but did not work for me.

But now when I import, it only appears in 3D views. It will not import into plans or elevations. Even my previous version.

As @ToanDN has suggested the objects in the Autocad file are nowhere near the origin.

I would edit the Autocad file first, move the objects to the origin (same as you would do for Autocad blocks in order to get consistent insertion into other drawings), then re-insert that amended "block" into your family.

See front view from the Autocaf file, objects are in the red ringed area and I've drawn a line grom there to the origin.

Amended Autocad file attached.

Then inserted into family using origin to origin:

Now shows in all views in project:

Your screenshot indicates you importing the drawing in WITH the box Current view only checked. Do not check that box.
